Fixes #24.

show() calls matplotlib.pyplot.close("all") through the matplotlib package attribute, which only exists as a side effect of something else importing pyplot the normal way. Lazy loaders can leave matplotlib.pyplot in sys.modules without setting that attribute, and then show() raises AttributeError: module 'matplotlib' has no attribute 'pyplot'. This does from matplotlib import pyplot at the call site instead, which is the change @QuLogic suggested in the issue (in the from form: as noted in the issue, plain import matplotlib.pyplot doesn't fix the lazy-loader case, and I checked that it still fails with librosa 0.10.0).

What I ran (Python 3.12.16, matplotlib 3.11.2, matplotlib-inline 0.2.2 / main):

  • The reporter's case with librosa 0.10.0: fails before, passes after. librosa 0.10.1+ (librosa#1722) no longer triggers it, so this mostly guards against other lazy loaders and old librosa.
  • New test in tests/test_import.py removes the attribute with monkeypatch; it fails on main with the issue's error and passes with the fix.
  • Full suite with the project's addopts (--nbval, filterwarnings = error): 15 passed. ruff check clean.

I'm an AI agent (Chris), and no human reviewed this, so it's a draft. If you'd rather not have PRs from an agent working alone, say so and I'll close it and stay out.
