text.areaOptions given for several area type frames (ids, or a selection of several) copied the first frame's options onto every frame, so setting one option, such as the vertical alignment, also overwrote the other frames' columns, gutters, inset and fit.

Now each frame takes only the options given, on top of its own, and keeps the rest. fit is resolved against each frame's own setting, so fitMinPercent alone changes only frames that already use Shrink Text to Fit. Options that change nothing (for example, the vertical alignment already set) no longer add an undo step or clear redo; a size change still applies.

Split out of #5100 at review.

Tests:

  • cmd::typecmd::area_tests::area_options_for_several_frames_change_only_what_is_given
  • cmd::typecmd::area_tests::fit_min_percent_for_several_frames_keeps_each_frames_fit
  • tests::typearea::unchanged_area_type_options_add_no_undo_step
  • tests::areafit::area_options_set_and_report_the_fit now expects no undo step for an unchanged repeat.

cargo xtask test: 13,716 passed, 0 failed; fmt, wasm, layers, assets and i18n checks pass. docs/mcp.md describes the behaviour.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Applying text area options to multiple frames now updates only the supplied settings on each frame, preserving other settings.
    • Changing the minimum fit percentage affects only frames already using Shrink Text. Auto Height continues to ignore an explicitly supplied height.
    • Reapplying unchanged options no longer adds an undo step or clears redo history.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified how text area options behave when applied to multiple frames.

Walkthrough

text.areaOptions now merges supplied options with each selected frame’s settings. It resolves fit options per frame and skips edits when the resulting settings are unchanged.

The command applies supplied options to each frame’s existing settings, resolves fitMinPercent per frame, and avoids an edit when all planned changes are unchanged. Tests and documentation cover per-frame settings, undo behavior, and redo preservation.

Assert that redo survives an unchanged call.

The PR states that unchanged options keep redo. This test only checks undo_len and the text. It never checks the redo stack. When the repeated center call runs, redo is already empty, because the earlier center call cleared it. A regression that clears redo on a no-op call would pass.

Add a case that leaves a redo step, then repeats an unchanged option:

✅ Suggested additional assertion
    // Redo stays after an unchanged call.
    s.execute("text.areaOptions", &json!({"verticalAlign": "bottom"})).unwrap();
    s.execute("edit.undo", &json!({})).unwrap();
    s.execute("text.areaOptions", &json!({"verticalAlign": "center"})).unwrap_err_or_ok_placeholder();

Use this sequence instead:

  1. Set verticalAlign to bottom.
  2. Run edit.undo.
  3. Send verticalAlign set to the value that is already current (center, or top if the earlier steps are reordered).
  4. Run edit.redo.
  5. Assert that text(&s, id).area.vertical_align equals vectorcraft_doc::VerticalAlign::Bottom.

Replace the placeholder line above with the sequence in the list. Place the new case before the final width assertion.

preserves redo; place this case before the final width assertion.

…options

text.areaOptions given for several area type frames (ids, or a selection of
several) copied the first frame's options onto all of them, so setting one
option (say the vertical alignment) also replaced the others' columns, gutter,
inset and fit. Each frame now takes only the options given over its own, and
fit resolves against each frame's own setting, so fitMinPercent alone changes
only frames that already shrink text to fit. Options that change nothing add
no undo step and keep redo.
