Fix Timeline line filling on tablet and mobile - #3775
LOW_RISK_MERGE - Skim intent + diffstat; merge if CI green.
Caution
None.
What was wrong
On tablet and mobile, the Timeline block's vertical line looked already filled with the accent color before you scrolled. Desktop looked fine. The same thing happened in Chrome's device toolbar.
Cause
The Timeline line uses a CSS trick (background-attachment: fixed) so the accent color fills as you scroll. iOS/Safari does not handle that well, so the plugin adds a workaround class (stk-block-timeline__ios-polyfill) that paints the line fully filled on tablet and mobile.
That workaround was supposed to run only for iPhone, iPad, and Safari. The check looked for Safari/ in the browser's user agent. Chrome, Edge, and Android browsers all include Safari/ for compatibility, so they got the iOS workaround too. On a narrow viewport the line then looked already filled.
Saved block HTML was never the problem. The extra class is added when the page is rendered, not when the block is saved.
The fix
src/block/timeline/index.php now has a small helper, stackable_is_timeline_ios_polyfill_user_agent(), that turns the workaround on only when:
the user agent contains iPhone or iPad, or
it is real Safari: Safari/ plus Version/, and not Chrome/
Real Safari includes Version/. Chrome-family browsers include Safari/ (and often Chrome/) even when they are not Safari. iPadOS Safari can report the same user agent as Safari on a Mac, so Safari still gets the workaround.
Effect on existing sites
iPhone, iPad, and Safari visitors get the same workaround they get today.
Chrome, Edge, Android Chrome, and Android WebView no longer get the iOS class, so the line fills as you scroll again.
Saved Timeline HTML does not change. No block deprecation or content migration is needed.
How it was tested
PHPUnit data-provider cases with known user agent strings (Chrome, Android Chrome, Edge, Android WebView, Firefox, Safari macOS, iPadOS Safari desktop UA, iPhone Safari, iPhone Chrome, iPad Safari, empty UA).
A render test that the polyfill still adds the class at render time.
Full free PHPUnit suite: 50 tests, 85 assertions, pass.
PHP compatibility (vendor/bin/phpcs / PHPCompatibilityWP) on the changed PHP file: pass.
JS unit and e2e were not run. This change is PHP user-agent detection only.
Intent
Fix Timeline tablet/mobile line already filled (#3306) by narrowing the iOS polyfill user-agent check. Keep iPhone, iPad, and Safari behavior unchanged. Do not change saved block HTML.
Fixed the Timeline block so its line fills as visitors scroll on tablets and mobile devices. This restores the expected scroll animation on supported browsers.
The iOS polyfill matched any user agent containing Safari/, including
Chrome, Edge, and Android. Narrow detection to iPhone, iPad, and real
Safari so the line fills on scroll again.
Quality-gated: risk=low; ship=ready.

The Timeline polyfill now uses a dedicated user-agent check before its render filter is registered. PHPUnit tests cover the detection results and render-time class addition. The 3.20.3 changelog notes the Timeline line-fill issue on tablet and mobile.

Summary
User-agent detection and render integration src/block/timeline/index.php, tests/phpunit/TimelineIosPolyfillTest.php, readme.txt
A guarded predicate rejects empty user agents and accepts those containing iPhone or iPad. Other accepted agents must contain Safari/ and Version/, and must not contain Chrome/. The render filter uses this predicate. Tests cover user-agent cases and render-time class addition. The changelog notes the tablet and mobile line-fill issue.
The change improves uncached Chrome rendering, but shared page caches can still serve the wrong Timeline styling to Safari or Chrome. The remaining risk is a bounded visual issue; merging warrants awareness of page-cache behavior.

Explanation
Issue #3306 requires the Timeline line to stop appearing pre-filled on tablet and mobile, including Chrome responsive views. The reviewed source now applies the render-time polyfill only for iPhone/iPad user agents or Safari user agents with both Safari/ and Version/ and without Chrome/. Chrome desktop, Android Chrome, Edge, Android WebView, and Firefox cases are covered by TimelineIosPolyfillTest; Apple Safari and iPhone/iPad cases remain enabled. The render test confirms that the workaround class is still added at render time. This addresses the linked issue without changing saved block HTML.

Add a test for the render-filter registration guard.
The new render test calls stackable_load_timeline_ios_frontend_polyfill() directly. The user-agent test checks only stackable_is_timeline_ios_polyfill_user_agent(). Neither test checks the add_filter() call that the user-agent check controls. If that guard were removed or changed, both tests would still pass, and Chrome-rendered Timeline blocks could receive the polyfill class. The current code is correct, so this is a regression-coverage gap.

Account for user-agent-keyed caching of the Timeline polyfill class.
The filter now adds the class for Safari, iPhone, and iPad, but not for Chrome. A full-page cache that ignores User-Agent can store Chrome's HTML without the class and serve it to Safari, which removes the iOS fill. A cache filled by Safari can also serve the class to Chrome. Make the cache vary by User-Agent, or apply the class after caching.

Add an Android exclusion to the Safari branch and a negative test case.
The Safari branch accepts any user agent with Safari/ and Version/ and no Chrome/. It has no Android check. A legacy Android stock-browser user agent, for example ... Android 4.0.4; ... Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30, passes this branch and receives the polyfill class. The data provider has no negative case for this shape, so the test suite does not detect it.
