test: cover React Router framework production in CI - #152
Adds a production React Router framework test using a pinned fixture. It runs native React as a control, then installs the packed Redact build for the browser while keeping the server on native React.
Both runs check hydration without replacing the original DOM nodes, server and client request context, streamed content, forms with and without JavaScript, fetchers, and scroll restoration. The test runs in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit in PR and release CI. Development and HMR coverage remain separate work.
This changes CI and test fixtures only. The runtime and its size budgets are untouched.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Tests
Expanded React Router compatibility checks across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit, covering hydration and recovery, navigation and scroll restoration, forms and fetchers, streaming responses, middleware, and submissions with JavaScript disabled.
Checks run in both native-reference and Redact modes, including request and session behavior and error-free page rendering.
React Router compatibility checks now run as part of release validation, helping catch regressions before a release is published.

Walkthrough
The PR adds a React Router framework fixture and a test command that runs it in native-reference and Redact modes across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. The PR and release workflows invoke the compatibility checks.
The fixture adds shared router contexts, client hydration and server rendering entries, root middleware, and an Express server. Its Vite and React Router configurations select separate output directories for native-reference and Redact modes.
Routes and route behavior tests/fixtures/react-router-framework/app/routes.js, tests/fixtures/react-router-framework/app/home.jsx, tests/fixtures/react-router-framework/app/detail.jsx
The fixture adds home and detail routes. The home route provides middleware, loader and action data, forms, fetchers, navigation, and deferred content.
Cross-browser compatibility test package.json, scripts/test-react-router.mjs
The test:react-router script builds the package and runs the fixture in both modes. The test checks browser behavior in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit, including hydration, middleware, streaming, forms, navigation, and JavaScript-disabled submission.
CI and release integration .github/workflows/pr.yml, .github/workflows/react-router.yml, .github/workflows/release.yml
The PR and release workflows invoke the React Router compatibility workflow. The release job waits for this workflow and the existing Next and Vinext compatibility jobs.
Add React Router (framework mode) integration #88: The issue requests React Router framework mode support and release checks. This PR adds a production framework fixture and runs its compatibility checks in the release workflow; the issue’s documentation and known-gap items are not addressed.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review 96bb3
The compatibility suite adds useful cross-browser coverage. Requiring every client middleware event remains a bounded follow-up; no production failure or actual timeout overrun has been established.

Assert the completed X-Fixture-Trace header in the server-middleware check.
The loader trace at line 71 is read before next() returns, so it does not cover the child-after and root-after pushes. The X-Fixture-Trace header from root.jsx is written after next() and includes those pushes, but no test reads it. A regression that removes either push would pass CI.

Review comment at @scripts/test-react-router.mjs at line 71:
Extend the server-middleware check in the test around the #server-trace
assertion to read the completed X-Fixture-Trace response header and verify it
includes both child-after and root-after in order, while preserving the existing
loader-trace assertion.
Check that the streamed fallback arrives before the deferred content.
The test waits only for Stream complete, at lines 73 and 93. The deferred value renders behind a Waiting fallback in home.jsx, but no assertion observes that fallback. A server that buffers the whole response can pass both waits.
The fallback is visible only during the 200 ms that the deferred value is pending. That window starts on the server. The JavaScript hold at lines 40-54 does not extend it, and a check placed at a fixed point in the script can still miss it.
A more reliable check reads the raw HTML response in chunks. It asserts that the chunk containing Waiting arrives before the chunk containing Stream complete. The request needs a user agent that selects the onShellReady path. Under onAllReady, the fallback never appears, so this check fails.

Review comment at @scripts/test-react-router.mjs at line 73:
Update the streaming test in the script’s request flow to observe the raw HTML
response as it arrives in chunks, using a user agent that selects the
onShellReady path. Assert that the chunk containing Waiting arrives before the
chunk containing Stream complete; do not rely on a fixed delay or a browser-side
check that can miss the server-side fallback window.
Assert all four client middleware events, not only child-before.
Lines 91-92 pass when a single child-before event exists and every seed is positive. They do not require root-before, child-after, or root-after. If the client middleware stops recording after next(), this check still passes.
Suggested fix
- assert.ok(middleware.some(event => event.part === 'child-before'))+ for (const part of ['root-before', 'child-before', 'child-after', 'root-after']) {+ assert.ok(middleware.some(event => event.part === part), part)+ }
assert.ok(middleware.every(event => Number.isInteger(event.seed) && event.seed > 0))

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The production job runs on macos-15 but retains a 12-minute timeout; the macOS setup, three-browser installation, build, and two fixture runs may exceed that limit.
The compatibility job times out despite working code, failing PR checks and blocking the release job that needs its result.
This can occur when: A cold macOS runner must download browser binaries and fixture dependencies before completing both compatibility runs.
